Today we are celebrating our local Neapolitan-inspired pizza joint @ nonavopizza! Located at 110 W 6th St in downtown Vancouver, Nonavo Pizza specializes in wood-fired pizza made with locally sourced ingredients.
Owner, Joey Chmiko, has a philosophy centered on educating the customer, knowing your supplier, and making damn good pizza.
How has business changed during COVID?
“We are fortunate to be able to continue our practice in its most regular form, people come in and buy pizza and we make pizza and we give it to them. It hasn’t changed much besides people not being able to come inside to sit down. We still sell a full menu; the entire staff has stayed on.”
What keeps you going?
“I have bills to pay, I have staff to pay, people rely on me for a job. I feel a huge amount of responsibility to the people who rely on me to support their families, pay their bills. That is a commitment I made to them and a commitment that they made to me.”
How do you support local?
“We try to buy as much as we can as close as we can. Usually, it is a better product, but sourcing is dependent on quality. First and foremost, I am a cook, flavor drives my desire. My mission centers on supporting the good local farms, but I will not pick poor quality produce.”
