Not Too Shabby
The month of August marks Not Too Shabby’s 20th anniversary in downtown Vancouver! Located at 16th & Broadway, Not Too Shabby is a delightful locally owned boutique that carries gifts, décor, and women’s fashions.
Owner, Reshell Douglas, aka Shabby Shelly, takes pride in treating all of her customers like friends.
“I call it the girlfriend mentality, we want you to feel comfortable and have fun… under normal circumstances, hug if you’ve had a bad day—with the customer leaving with a big smile. We take pride in helping customers find what they need, and what they didn’t know they needed. I always hear from my customers that they can come in here to find the perfect gift. We go out of our way to do complimentary gift-wrapping.”
How have you pivoted during COVID?
“Starting in March, we had our website up and running. I was doing doorstep deliveries with my 16 year old who is learning how to drive. Going forward it has taught us how to think outside of the box and how we can offer services differently. We offer personalized shopping, virtual shopping, home delivery, and curated gifts / gift baskets. We have ramped up our social media presence, I do video segments like Shop with Shabby Shelly and Wine and Couch Time with Shabby Shelly.”
How have you stayed positive?
“I never say that i can’t, or that i’m done, you have to take a deep breath… and think how can i do this in a different way? Along with exercising, staying busy, not sitting at home feeling sorry for myself, focusing on what I can control. Even if i only had one sale, the customer will get 100% of my attention. I try to focus on other people, and remain encouraging.”
